Far Cry

Far Cry is a modern first-person shooting game that takes place on a strange archipelago near Australia. Many modern shooting games choose a war or science fiction setting. Far Cry is an interesting shooting game because it mostly forgoes these elements in favor of island exploration. The game has many elements of World War II shooting games. The maps are filled with bunkers that the player can hide in.

The player assumes the role of a Special Forces agent named Jack Carver. The major enemies in this game are hired mercenaries. The later areas in the game reveal that the plot is about genetic mutation. The majority of the enemies in later parts of the game are mutated creatures. This game has maps that the player can traverse at random. The game still feels linear because the objectives have to be completed in a specific order.

The game often allows the player to use stealth to take out groups of enemies in the jungle. The player can hide in cover and listen for the sound of enemy footsteps in the distance. Players can also attack enemies head on by charging at them, but this is often more dangerous. This game gives the player several different weapons from which to select. The game's automatic weapons are better for running and gunning. The sniper rifle in this game is best suited for taking out enemies in the distance. Far Cry also gives the player grenades to take out large clusters of enemies at once.

Fans of modern shooting games may think that Far Cry is too simplistic. There are no puzzles in Far Cry. The game does include a number of different vehicles. The vehicles add variety to the game's combat segments.

The island setting in Far Cry may feel redundant because the locale never changes. The jungle areas are rendered beautifully. This game's water effects are also reasonably impressive. Players who like to explore in shooting games will likely stumble across secrets that make the combat a little bit easier.

Far Cry also has a great soundtrack. The game is full of intense orchestral pieces that make the action in the game feel more urgent. Far Cry's voice acting varies in quality. Some of the voice actors sound like paid professionals. A few of the voice actors sound like they have never done a voice-acting gig before. Far Cry also includes a multiplayer mode. Players can use the included level editor to make their own multiplayer maps. Far Cry is an excellent shooting game, but it does not have enough variety to make it truly stand out.
